    Seven months pregnant
My son is now less than two months from being born. He is fully formed and would probably be okay if he were born today (though that's not what I want and would not be best for him).

He already is developing a personality--he seems more active and more stubborn than his big sister. He has definite opinions about the positions he prefers. He is kicking me very regularly as I type this--the only thing Firstborn ever did regularly was hiccup, and this is a lot more random than that. Come to think of it, I don't know if my son has even had the hiccups.

He probably weighs 3 or 4 pounds now. He probably looks like you would expect a newborn to look, only smaller and skinnier.

And it would be completely legal for me to have him killed.

There's no reason for that. It would be no more harmful to me--probably less--to simply give birth to him at this point. An injection could give his lungs a better chance, and he would likely live a full and productive life, though he might face temporary setbacks or possibly permanent difficulties due to his prematurity. If I decided I no longer wanted my son (and I do want him so much!), there would be plenty of families willing to love him and raise him as their own, even if he did face challenges due to being born early.

There is no reason for abortion to be legal after viability. It's not about bodily sovereignty. It's not about choosing whether to be pregnant. It's about choosing whether a child may live or die.

Late abortions are about killing babies.

Disclaimer: Nothing in this post should be taken to imply that I support women making the decision to give birth early because they do not want their children or do not want to be pregnant anymore. Nothing in this post should be taken to indicate that I think a woman's right to do what she likes with her body should trump a child's right to life at any stage of pregnancy.

    QOTD
Quote of the day (from Buried Treasure):

"Doesn’t it seem a little disquieting to you that large government vehicles go out every weekday into the countryside, round up the children, ferry them to centers where they are taught materials officially approved by that government, they are sent home with these materials to study at night, they are not allowed to be taught about God in these centers and the funds to pay for all this are forcibly taken from the citizens, whether or not they choose to participate in this system?"

    Scripture of the Post:

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

    Proverbs 31:8-9

    A reflection on abortion
Suppose there were a young teenager who found herself pregnant. She was a good kid who didn't deserve it--she'd been as careful as could be expected, but now she was faced with the prospect of having this baby. Her support system wasn't the best. Her fiance said that he'd leave her; he claimed the baby couldn't be his. Her parents were real conservative; they wouldn't want a bastard in the family. She didn't know what, if any, support she could expect from them. She might just have to have this baby alone in whatever place she could find shelter. She had little education and no job skills. Shouldn't girls like her--children, really--have access to an abortion? Why should she have to ruin her life over something that, by all rights, never should have happened to her? Suppose her name was Mary, and this happened about 2000 years ago.

I want to go to the Wedgetypegathering (See phoenix1701's journal) tonight.

At this point, although I will be coming, I will likely get there about an hour late.

I am currently nestled in the corner of Charlton, a place known for being near everywhere yet not near anywhere.

    My plan at present:
Pete comes home from work near Worcester, braving rush hour to arrive here at roughly 1800 hours.
Pete and I load whatever we are bringing into car and drive back to Worcester, arriving at 1900ish hours.

I plan on bringing Christmas cookies, and will also bring games at request.

I know that a lot of people aren't in the area anymore, but I also know that friday gaming will probably continue through the summer. That being the case, I would like to invite any interested parties over for supper tomorrow. I'll make bagel pizzas with your choice of toppings for anyone who would like to come by around 5 or 6. I would prefer that people RSVP so I have some idea how much to get; if you know what toppings you want that would be good too. Unless you say otherwise, I'll plan on 1 bagel (2 bagel pizzas) per person. I will, however, make every attempt to feed everyone who replies by 4:00 PM EST.
Please don't reply to both the email to the SFS mailing list and the livejournal post.

The ten things you probably haven't done meme )

In other news, when do you want supper? Just let me know 2 hours in advance, on a day I'll be home (not Tuesday or Wednesday, except the week of the fourteenth), and I will feed you.

All sorts of things seem to be going on just beyond my radar. Rumor has it that Kate has mysteriously appeared in Worcester. Kate, if you're bored and want to get together, call or email me, or reply here. If you are reading this and sitting in the same room as Kate, let her know I'm talking to her.

    I am bored.

I find that if I wait a month or two, I actually have useful or interesting things to post in my live journal. I will provide a short bulleted list of interesting things which have happened; if you want to know more, feel free to comment.

-Progress on our house has been made (see [info]petercooperjr's journal for more information.)

-I have now actually applied to the Post-Baccalaureate Initial License Program at WSC.

-Betrayers of Kamigawa prerelease. I have about 8 piles of magic cards (rares, land, artifacts, blue, green, white, black, red) sitting on my couch in alphabetical order, waiting for the update to Magic Suitcase to occur so that I can log the cards and then merge them with our full collection. I like alphabetizing.

    -It snowed. I shoveled.

-I really like Babylon 5. It does, however, tend to be amazingly predictable.

-I am back at school and work.

-This morning I came into work to discover that while we had computers, whoever put them here did not even take the simplest steps to make sure that they work. We are short one monitor cord and another was not plugged in. Not all of the computers connect to the network properly. I do not get paid enough to do tech support.

-If Pete or anyone else can think of anything else interesting that happened in my life, feel free to mention it.

    The long-awaited post praising [info]tblissa0
I just wanted everyone to know that [info]tblissa0 is a great person and really cool to hang out with. She is smart, talented and funny, and I am glad that her life is going well right now--she has a boyfriend she's crazy about and is back at school. She also got her wish of a snow day granted!
I like tblissa0 because she's such a nice person, too. She bought me food once. Despite the fact that she appears to have social skills and a life, she has never tried to avoid being seen near me in public. Also, she is a good writer and I hope she comes back to the Writing Center. (Email Carey or stop by--we would like to have you back.)
If you like to see/take lots of cool quizzes, check out [info]tblissa0's journal!

    Wow! An update!
I'm sure that very few people who read this have been losing sleep over whether the Writing Center's move went okay, but here is an update on that anyway. )

Over Thanksgiving, I was able to make massive amounts of Christmas cookies and had three turkey dinners. (Pete got four.) Progress on our house seems to have stalled again, although Pete got a call from the appraiser-person last night. I have to write a "pastiche" for my final for modern drama. Should be fun.
